RP ProPulse – Numerical Simulation of Pulse Propagation

What the Software Does
RP ProPulse can simulate the propagation of ultrashort pulses in various situations, for example in the resonators of actively or passively mode-locked lasers, in synchronously pumped optical parametric oscillators, and in optical fibers. More specifically, the software can calculate how the electric-field distribution of femtosecond and picosecond pulses evolves in the time and frequency domain when the pulses propagate through various kinds of optical components. More details are given on the page describing the underlying physical model. The software runs on an ordinary PC under Microsoft Windows.
Applications
RP ProPulse can be used for many purposes in the context of ultrafast optics and laser technology. Some examples are:
- simulating the pulse evolution in a mode-locked laser in order to investigate the dependence of the steady-state pulse parameters on various input parameters or to study various kinds of instabilities
- studying the final limitations of a chirped-pulse amplification (CPA) system.
- simulating dispersive or soliton propagation in a fiber-optic link, including the investigation of noise properties.
- investigation of pulse compression or supercontinuum generation in photonic crystal fibers, including higher-order chromatic dispersion, Kerr and Raman nonlinearity with self-steepening, four-wave mixing effects, quantum noise, etc.
Note that although analytical tools can be used for doing various kinds of calculations in this area, a powerful numerical tool allows one to address a much wider range of situations with fewer limiting assumptions.
Target Groups
RP ProPulse is very suitable for the following institutions:
- industrial companies developing mode-locked lasers (both bulk lasers and fiber lasers), pulse amplifiers or ultrafast parametric oscillators
- research laboratories, where aspects of such devices are explored in detail
- educational institutions, creating a solid technical understanding of such devices
In any case, RP ProPulse will give you a substantial competitive advantage, as your work will be more effective and efficient: you will have the means to find out quickly and reliably what your device performance could or should be and how to optimize it.
