Abstract: In recent weeks, a substantial number of new articles has been added to the RP Photonics encyclopedia. This also further strengthens the value of the RP Photonics Buyers Guide for both readers and advertisers.
It has been a relatively long time since the last issue of the Photonics Spotlight, since I have been very busy with various other things. Part of that was writing new articles for my online RP Photonics Encyclopedia.
Those activities actually have a lot to do with the RP Photonics Buyer's Guide. When I started developing the encyclopedia in 2004, I originally focused on topics which were around the technical areas in which I offered technical consulting and software. In the coming years, particularly until 2008, when the encyclopedia came out as a book, I substantially expanded the range of topics, now covering much of areas like laser physics, fiber optics and nonlinear optics. Since 2012, we also have the mentioned buyer's guide, containing listings of suppliers for many products in the area of photonics. For most listed products, we already have an encyclopedia article, which can be very helpful for both readers and advertisers. However, such articles are still missing for some of the products. Therefore, I am now trying to add more articles particularly on keywords related to frequently used photonics products. (Particularly high priority is given to those product keywords where we already have paying buyer's guide customers.) Sometimes, however, I also come across other interesting topics and write on those. Fortunately, my expertise and my very well trained writing skills allow me to be quite prolific in that work.
You may be interested in the following list of the articles which I have authored in 2019 so far:
- intensity modulators
- optical coherence tomography
- wavelength-swept lasers
- photodiode arrays
- Pockels cell drivers
- optical windows
- laser cooling units
- ultraviolet optics
- beam collimators
- laser diode collimators
- fiber launch systems
- ball lenses
- beam expanders
- beam homogenizers
- diffractive optics
- microlenses
- gradient-index lenses
- custom optics
- space division multiplexing
This may actually look as if I had nothing else to do, which however would be far from the truth. Also, I hope you will not have the impression of low-quality mass production when you read the articles; I consider quality as most important. You may conclude, however, that my time for relaxation was relatively sparse in recent weeks.
If you still miss interesting topics, or if you have any other comments and suggestions, I will be happy to see what I can do.
