Analyzing Fiber Amplifiers and Lasers with RP Fiber Power V7
Please make your browser window wide enough to see the video in sufficiently large size.
This video shows you the following within about 18 minutes:
- You can easily start modeling a fiber amplifier, using the interactive forms.
Quite quickly you can concentrate on the interesting physics aspects of those devices.
- Even when just analyzing the absorption of pump light, you may make interesting findings due to the often strong pump saturation effects.
Amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) may then make the behavior substantially more complicated to understand.
Even in a simple fiber amplifier device, we have to understand the interaction of several effects like optical pumping, saturation of absorption, laser gain and amplified spontaneous emission.
Quite obviously, it is essential to have such a model for acquiring a comprehensive understanding of how such a system works.
- Users can also start with one of the many demo scripts.
One of them, also containing a custom form, is demonstrated here.
A great aspect of using custom forms is that one can easily modify them according to the own needs.
For example, it is demonstrated how you could simply allow the input of multiple signal channels, when the original script assumed only a single signal.
- It is briefly mentioned that one can also do more sophisticated things, for example simulate pulsed operation of an amplifier, also with ultrashort pulses, where additional effects like chromatic dispersion and the fiber nonlinearity come into play.
It is also possible to simulate mode-locked fiber lasers and to make models containing multiple amplifier stages and other components.
