Simulating Beam Propagation in RP Fiber Power V7
Please make your browser window wide enough to see the video in sufficiently large size.
This video shows you the following within about 10 minutes:
- A first example is the analysis of a tapered fiber.
We use one of the demo files coming with the software, which contains a custom form for convenient input and inspecting outputs.
It is shown how relatively complex operations can be programmed quite naturally with the supported script language.
Users can of course make modified versions of such scripts and develop their own kinds of simulations.
- Another example case concerns the analysis of a fused fiber coupler.
We can analyze how the coupling works for different wavelengths, how it reacts to changes of the coupler design etc.
It is also shown how to use the interactive beam profile viewer to inspect the results in detail.
- Various other example cases are just briefly mentioned: calculating mode-dependent bend losses, simulating nonlinear self-focusing at high optical powers, simulating mode-dependent absorption in double-clad fibers, and even simulating the amplification of light in a strongly pumped bulk laser crystal with gain guiding and thermal lensing.
Even the inclusion of propagation in air and other optical devices is possible.
So the software is a powerful tool for more than only fiber optics.
