Where to Buy Eye-safe Lasers
Various lasers are relatively eye-safe, because they emit in wavelength regions where the light cannot be transmitted to the retina, the most sensitive part of the eye. For example, there are erbium-doped lasers emitting in the 1.5-μm spectral region and thulium-doped lasers emitting around 2 μm. They may be used for eye-safe laser rangefinders and free-space optical communications, for example.
