Available thulium-doped laser gain medium include crystalline materials like Tm3+:YAG and thulium-doped fibers, including double-clad fibers for high-power operation and fibers for upconversion lasing. Typical emission wavelengths are in the 2-μm region, but up conversion lasing also allows for blue emission, for example.
